Vasectomy - part 2

Well one week after the snip and the pain has pretty much gone. Trampolining, motorbiking and sex and all as much fun as ever. It was pretty painful in the week (balls the size of tennis balls, or so it felt like) for until I woke up Thurday morning, after which it's been hurting less and less.

I was out and about on the bike yesterday getting the bike back from the dealers after a clutch failure and then over to Flitwick to pick up my new bright yellow jacket. I seem to have survived quite a few hours in the saddle so I might try cycling and Pilates again soon.

New chain?

I've just seen this posted via Eek. Perhaps I ought to by a new chain?

Fame at last

Well sort of anyway. Rose Grant (a professional cider maker) was very complimentory about my cider in her blog so I'm feeling even smugger than usual.

"This evening I enjoyed a glass of Matt Helliwell's Surrey cider. This is refreshing, clear, sharp and has a fine flavour. It is an appropriate reminder of how good eastern style cider can be, after reading the thread recently begun by Roy."

Snip snip

I don't know why they call it the snip - it felt more like a kick and they cauterised the tubes rather than snipping them.

Anyway, yesterday I went to the clinic in Woking to have my vasectomy, arranged through Maries Stopes. I got a lift down there and then after a bit of consultation I was under the knife. It took about 10 minutes and was somewhat uncomfortable, definitely worse than having a tattoo. I'm convinced the Doctor was squeezing my balls very hard.

I came back to Camberley by train and taxi and just about made it to bed before the pain was too severe for me to move. Left bollock was fine but the right one felt like somebody had given it a hard kick. After an hour or two the pain faded to an ache (with the help of some pain relief) and Sue came back from work and gave me support and a cup of tea.

This morning it all feels fine so it's off to the test drive. Apparently you're meant to abstain from sex for a couple of days afterwards, but I can't work out why!

New car

I'm off to test drive one of these on Saturday hilux :-). The bikes out of action and I wasn't quite sure why I was cycling to the station in the rain instead of just getting another car. I should be able to fit the bike onto the back of the pick up. Or if I can't, I can always buy another (smaller) bike that will fit!

Apparently so long as the DVD player fits, I'm allowed any sort of car that I want.

Washed Out

This weekend was meant to be a KTM meet in Yorkshire but it never quite happened. Thursday I went up to my parent in Cheshire. It rained so much the M6 was flooded so despite spirited filtering I didn't get there until gone eleven.

Friday most people decided it was way too wet to carry on, including me so I spent with day at my parents and popped into Bassetts in Shelton ( to buy a new pair of (waterproof!) trousers. A couple of people did try to gp up from Wales on Friday afternoon. After 6 hours they'd got as far as Sheffield, gave up and stayed the night there.

I rode back down to Camberely on Saturday (managing to miss most of the rain) and called in at Grahames ( to buy some gloves (also waterproof, made of dead goat apparently).

Today I went off to Salisbury Plain for another ride. I got to the meeting but then got about 2 miles before the clutch gave out. We also decided there wasn't much to do about it so I limped home and the others carried on.

It looks like the master cylinder is leaking so I've got to arrange for the bike to go to the dealers.

Yately Morris

Posted by PicasaSue, Amelia and I went for a walk to the Ancient Foresters in Bagshot in the week to watch Yately Morris dance for our entertainment. I'd forgotten Ross, from my Alpha course, was also a morris man so it was good to bump into him and have a a chat.

Catching Up

I don't seem to have updated my blog recently - I've just been too busy enjoying my life to spend much time doing it.

Anyway, yesterday I went out on a bike ride on Salisbury Plain. Great fun but I managed to hurt my back trying to shift Dillon's bike out of the mud so I'm currently off work until I can get my leg over my bike again (hopefully tomorrow). The full gory details are here

Other things happening are that Val has signed the divorce papers and they've been submitted to the court which is great news and the divorce can't happen soon enough for me.

I've been spending a lot of time with Sue and Amelia. Amongst lots of other things, we went up to Ely and Cambridge a couple of weeks ago. I've wanted to see Ely cathedral for a while since Fred Dibnah did a TV programme on it. We had a really good time, despite the fact that it poured with rain all weekend.
